1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using Cogniso, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and any additional terms applicable to specific features. If you're using Cogniso through an educational institution, your institution's agreement with us may also apply.

If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the platform.

2. Description of Services

Cogniso provides an AI-powered learning platform with the following features:

2.1 Cortex Document Management

• PDF upload, viewing, and AI-powered analysis
• Intelligent document chat for Q&A about your materials
• Annotations, highlights, bookmarks, and notes
• Real-time collaborative document editing

2.2 Assessments & Practice

• AI-generated quizzes with multiple difficulty levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
• Practical assessments: essays, coding challenges, case studies, design tasks, and more
• AI evaluation and personalized feedback on submissions
• Practice questions from exam banks (WASSCE, JAMB, BECE, and more)
• Learning analytics and weakness identification

2.3 Study Rooms

• Focus Rooms: Pomodoro timers, ambient sounds, distraction-free studying
• Discussion Rooms: Video calls, whiteboards, real-time collaboration
• Collaborative Rooms: Shared document editing, version control
• Practice Rooms: AI-generated problems, group problem-solving

2.4 Live Lectures

• Real-time broadcast and streaming
• Slide presentations with synchronized viewing
• Live chat, Q&A, and raise hand features
• Recording and playback capabilities

2.5 Course & Content Management

• Course creation, enrollment, and progress tracking
• Assignment publishing and submission
• Grading and feedback systems
• Syllabus and calendar management

2.6 Gamification

• Points, achievements, and badges
• Leaderboards and rankings
• Learning streaks and milestones

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

You may register using Google Sign-In or email/password. You must provide accurate information and keep your account details up to date.

3.2 Account Security

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials
• Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for enhanced security
• Notify us immediately at security@cogniso.io if you suspect unauthorized access
• You are responsible for all activities under your account

3.3 Account Types

• Individual accounts: For personal learning
• Institutional accounts: Managed by schools/organizations with additional oversight
• Creator accounts: For content creators with publishing capabilities

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Cogniso responsibly and legally. You must NOT:

4.1 Academic Integrity Violations

• Submit AI-generated content as your own original work in assessed assignments
• Share assessment answers or questions with others during timed assessments
• Use the platform to facilitate cheating or academic dishonesty
• Impersonate another student or take assessments on their behalf

4.2 Content Violations

• Upload illegal, harmful, or copyrighted content you don't have rights to use
• Share malware, viruses, or malicious code
• Post harassment, hate speech, or discriminatory content
• Upload sexually explicit or violent content
• Spam or distribute unsolicited promotional material

4.3 Platform Abuse

• Attempt to hack, exploit, or gain unauthorized access to systems
• Use automated bots or scrapers without permission
• Deliberately overload servers or disrupt service for others
• Circumvent security measures or access restrictions
• Reverse engineer or decompile our software
• Share your account credentials or allow others to use your account

4.4 Study Room & Live Lecture Conduct

• Do not record video calls without consent of all participants
• Respect other users in collaborative spaces
• Do not disrupt lectures or study sessions
• Follow your institution's code of conduct if applicable

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Cogniso's Intellectual Property

The platform, including its software, design, AI models, course content, and branding, is owned by Cogniso and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without written permission.

5.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create and upload (documents, submissions, notes). By uploading, you grant Cogniso a license to store, process, display, and analyze your content as necessary to provide our services, including AI analysis and evaluation.

5.3 AI-Generated Content

Assessments, feedback, and other content generated by our AI are provided for your personal educational use. You may use AI feedback to improve your learning but should not redistribute AI-generated assessments commercially.

6. AI Features & Limitations

Our platform uses artificial intelligence extensively. Please understand:

• AI-generated assessments and feedback may occasionally contain errors
• AI evaluation is supplementary and may not reflect official academic grading
• Document analysis accuracy depends on document quality and format
• AI recommendations are suggestions, not guarantees of learning outcomes
• You should verify important information from authoritative sources

We continuously improve our AI systems but cannot guarantee perfection. Use AI features as learning aids, not definitive authorities.

7. Institutional Users

If you access Cogniso through an educational institution:

• Your institution may have additional policies that apply to your use
• Administrators and instructors can view your progress and submissions
• Your institution may control certain account features and access
• Data sharing with your institution is governed by their agreement with us
• Your institution's academic integrity policies apply to your use

8. Payment Terms

Some features require paid subscriptions:

• Prices are displayed before purchase and may vary by region
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled before the renewal date
• You can cancel anytime through Settings > Billing
• Refunds are provided according to our refund policy
• Institutional billing is handled separately through enterprise agreements

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

COGNISO IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE:

• Uninterrupted or error-free service
• Accuracy of AI-generated content or evaluations
• That the service will meet your specific learning objectives
• Compatibility with all devices or browsers
• Preservation of data in case of unforeseen events

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COGNISO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
• Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
• Academic outcomes or performance results
• Actions of other users in collaborative features
• Third-party service interruptions

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

11.1 By You

You may delete your account at any time through Settings > Account > Delete Account. Your data will be removed according to our Privacy Policy.

11.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you:

• Violate these Terms of Service
• Engage in academic dishonesty
• Abuse platform features or other users
• Fail to pay for subscription services

We will provide notice when possible, except in cases of serious violations.

12. Changes to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with changes, you may close your account.

13. Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by applicable laws. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If unresolved, disputes may be submitted to binding arbitration or the courts of competent jurisdiction, depending on your location and the nature of the dispute.
